Sciracost
From Simon Online
Sciracost arabice species est manne ut apud Avicennam capitulo de manna.
Apparatus:
spe͡s { = species} | speties B
Translation:
Sciracost is Arabic for a kind of manna, as stated in Avicenna’s chapter De manna {"On manna"}.
Commentary:
A text virtually identical with this entry is found with further commentary under Xiracost, q.v.
P.s. Simon uses an "Italian" spelling for Sciracost and a "Hispanic" spelling in Xiracost. Since Latin did not have the sound /š/, IPA [ʃ], as found word-initially in English in "shoe", new conventions for the representation of this sound had to be found and were beginning to be hesitantly established by the medieval scribes.
