Translation:
Salch alhaiet is Arabic for Latin spolium serpentis {"stripped off snakeskin"}.
Commentary:
The last consonant is part of the plural ending in /t/, ﺣﻴﺎﺕ /ḥayyāt/ "snakes", i.e. ﺳﻠﺦ ﺍﻟﺤﻴﺎﺕ /salḫ al-ḥayyāt/, {(lit.) "slough of snakes"}.
Wehr: ﺳﻠﺦ /salḫ/ "detaching, skinning, flaying; snakeskin, slough"; Wehr: ﺣﻴﺔ, ﺣﻴﺎﺕ /ḥayya/, pl. /ḥayyāt / "snake, serpent, viper".
