Translation:

Ruman or roman is Arabic for Latin malum granatum {"pomegranate"}, likewise romania, a food made from it.

Commentary:

Wehr (1976): ﺭﻣﺎﻥ /rummān/ "pomegranate".

Lane (1984: 1161): ﺭﻣﺎﻧﻴﺔ /rummānīya/ "a kind of food prepared with pomegranates...".

Cf. Du Cange (1883-7): 2 ROMANIA, vox Italica, Potionis species {i.e. "a kind of drink, draught"}.
