Translation:

Greek Pyos {"pus"} and elkos {"festering wound"} is in Latin pus and sanies {"diseased or corrupted blood; bloody matter"}.


Commentary:

πύον /pýon/, or πύος /pýos/ means "discharge from a sore" and ἕλκος /hélkos/ "festering wound, sore, ulcer". Sanies is "diseased or corrupted blood; bloody matter, sanies"; and transf. "venomous slaver".
