Girgir arabice eruca liber de doctrina arabica.

Apparatus:

arabica (araca j; g. arabica p) B fjp | greca AC | greca a̅ ms. e

Translation:

Girgir is Arabic for Latin eruca {"salad rocket"} according to the Liber de doctrina arabica.

Commentary:

The Liber de doctrina arabica has so far not been identified, but cf, what must be a similar glossary/dictionary - Vocabulista - ed. Schiaparelli (1871: 79): ﺟﺮﺟﻴﺮ /ğirğīr/ Eruca [[1]]; (1871: 369): ﺟﺮﺟﻴﺮ /ğirğīr/ ERUCA [[2]].

Cf. Siggel (1950: 25): ﺟﺮﺟﻴﺮ /ğarğīr, ğirğīr/ Brassica eruca (Crucif.), Rauke {i.e. "salad rocket"}, but Wehr (1976): ﺟﺮﺟﻴﺮ /ğirğīr/ "watercress" (Egyptian, Syrian).
