Arabic Almezerion is in Latin mezerion, for more information see the entry Mezerion.

Commentary:

Siggel (1950: 67): ﻣﺎﺯﺭﻳﻮﻥ /māzariyūn/ Daphne Mezereum (Thymelaeac.) Seidelbast. Leclerc, Ibn Baitun: Daphne oleoides {i.e. Daphne mezerion [[1]] or acc. to Leclerc, Ibn Baitun: Daphne oleoides} [[2]].

Arabic ﺍﻟﻤﺎﺯﺭﻳﻮﻥ /al-māzariyūn/, with the definite article, is of Persian origin, but its etymology is unknown. The Arabic name is the source of the European adoptions of the word.

For further information see Mezerion.
